Los Poblanos Housemade Organic Dark Fruit Cake



Our Pastry chef, Sarah Ciccotello, and the Los Poblanos kitchen team have crafted a small batch of only 300 dark fruit cakes using the finest organic ingredients.  They have been hand-made, basted, and tended to over the last six months. Starting last winter, Valencia orange peels and kumquats were candied. In the summer, glacéed bing cherries started macerating in fine Cognac. After baking in the fall, the cakes were bathed in Cognac while they matured just in time for the holidays!

Our signature fruit cakes incorporate black Mission figs, Medjool dates, golden raisins, Zante currants, candied organic kumquat, candied organic orange peel, organic New Mexican pecans, glaceed bing cherries, New Mexican organic flour, locally roasted organic coffee, organic molasses, organic butter, sugar, organic New Mexican eggs, cognac, brandy and organic spices.

To serve: Refrigerate the cake until very cold, then slice thinly and return to room temperature.

    In a word, DELICIOUS! Perfect consistency. Moist, but not soggy. Somehow avoids the bitter aftertaste I associate with other dark fruitcakes. Even if you’re not a fruitcake fan, treat yourself. You can’t go wrong with this one.

    It can be hard to find a fruitcake without artificial colors and preservatives. I really appreciate the wholesome ingredients in this cake. I sent it to my mom, and I don’t know if she was exaggerating or not, but she said it was the best dessert she ever had.
