Home_Slideshow_RistraWe are lucky to have another one of our Los Poblanos heroes joining us this month. When the owner of Los Poblanos, Penny Rembe, first decided to open the B&B, she wanted to focus on serving an incredible breakfast to the guests. The 1st person she called was Katharine Kagel, from the famed Café Pasquals in Santa Fe. We have become lifelong fans after her valuable advice on how to create the personal and intimate dining experience our guests still enjoy today.

Café Pasquals has set the standard for dining in the Southwest for decades, and has long been a New Mexican dining institution. Using influences from South America and Mexico, always focusing on local and organic ingredients plus comfort food, Katharines’ café and her staff have set the bar high in this regard.

Join Katharine at Los Poblanos as she discusses her two cookbooks, “Café Pasquals – Spirited Recipes from Santa Fe” and “Café Pasquals”.  There will be a book signing in The Farm Shop from 1pm – 4pm, with samples of Katharine’s famed red chile bacon. Following the booksigning, Katharine will have a fireside talk in the historic Inn. Guests have the option to join us for dinner following the event, featuring our La Merienda menu and a few treats from the Pasquals cookbook.

About the author: Originally from Berkeley, California, Katharine studied cooking in Japan and Hawaii, and then developed a passion for Chinese cooking- which is why there is global cuisine at Cafe Pasqual's. In 1978 she moved to Santa Fe and opened Cafe Pasqual's the following year. She helped to found the international association of prepared and perishable food rescue programs, Foodchain, as well as Santa Fe's local program, The Food Brigade. The Food Brigade morphed into her brain child of The Santa Fe Depot, Santa Fe's food bank that now reaches ten northern New Mexico counties.
